Peggy (Dover) Barnett
March 9, 1944 - April 26, 2008
Peggy Ann Dover was born in Rock Island, Illinois to Molly and Oscar Dover, their third child. She was a beautiful child,
inside and out and spent her life radiating that beauty by giving to others. She became active in the Civil Rights movement in the
60's. She graduated from UCLA with a degree in Social Work and began a life long pursuit of advocacy for children as a tireless
worker in Child Protective Services. Moving to Northern California in 1976 she worked for the County of San Mateo in the same
capacity.
In the 1990's Peggy graduated from Golden Gate College of Law and began a second career as program manager for the San Mateo
Office of County Counselís CPS unit. She retired in November 2006 receiving an Award for Outstanding Service to Children for her 3
decades of service.
Peggy loved gardening, cooking, good food and wine, politics, shopping, the ocean breezes on the California coast and flowers
but most of all she loved her husband Phil Barnett whom she married on October 11, 1988. He was her beshert, her destiny, and her
beloved.
After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2006, Peggy embarked on a courageous battle against this disease with
her customary vigor and purpose. Predeceased by her parents, and brother Sidney, she is survived by her husband Philip Barnett,
son Jason and his wife Anne Cherry, sisters Donna Mendelsohn (David), Esther Dover and Ellen Dover. She leaves grieving cousins
Jerry and Joyce Shefren as well as nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
