James Stablein, 64, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at
Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services were held at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock
Island.
James was born on May 12, 1944, in Rock Island, the son of George
"Bud" Frederick and Inez Eleanor Johnson Stablein. He was confirmed
at Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Stablein was a graduate of the Rock
Island High School Class of 1962. He married Tina Wales in 1964, in
Rock Island.
Mr. Stablein was retired from Case IH, East Moline, after 30 years,
last working as an assembler.
James loved his family and grandchildren. Mr. Stablein was an avid
Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Rock Island High
School fan. He enjoyed watching sports with his friends and family.
He was an accomplished catcher and played in four ISC World Fast
Pitch Tournaments, mostly on the Wm. Mosenfelder & Sons and Moline
Body Co. teams, along with playing baseball at Rock Island High
School.
James is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Michele (Lehan)
Stablein, Rock Island, Joe and Pam Stablein, Rock Island; their
mother, Tina Winefordner; grandchildren, Nick, Mary, Colleen and
Conner Stablein; several stepgrandchildren; sister and
brother-in-law, Sandy and Don Wentler, Rock Island; brother and
sister-in-law, Ron and Marianne Stablein, Rock Island; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James T. Stablein Jr.;
and brother, George "Fred" Stablein Jr.
