Becky Anderson Adams

by Mary Thurman Yuhas

Gene and Becky Anderson

During high school, Becky Anderson Adams debated whether to attend the Univ. of Colorado in Boulder or the Univ. of Nebraska in Lincoln.  In the end, the cornhuskers won out and that fall after graduation, she headed to Lincoln.  "I didn't know a soul there," she said.

It turned out to be a good choice she said because on a blind date during her sophomore year, she met her now husband of 43 years, Gene.  "We never dated anyone else afterwards," she said.

The pair graduated in 1966 -  Becky with a degree in liberal arts.   Shortly after graduating, they married and moved to Bettendorf.

The Army intervened a year later - Gene was drafted.  During his second year in the service, he was sent to Vietnam.  While he was away, Becky worked at her aunt's hardware store (B&B, which is still there today she says) in Milan.

When Gene returned in 1969, the pair bought into Gibson Pharmacies, a large chain of drug stores in Texas.  "I worked in and out of the pharmacy business with my husband," she said.

After the chain was sold, they stayed in the Dallas area and bought Lochwood Drug Store.  They sold it after owning and operating it for  20 years.  Afterwards, Gene went into consulting.

Today, the couple live in Frisco, Texas and have two grown children and five grandchildren.  "We are a very close family, and my family is my priority." Becky said.  "We even vacation together."

Their daughter, Stephanie Ferguson, 33, lives only a couple of miles from them and their son, Mark, 31, lives close by in University Park, Texas.  "I see them all of the time and babysit a lot," she said.

This year Becky's husband has served as president of the Texas Pharmacy Consulting Assn., which has required them to attend one or two conferences each month all over the country.  They enjoy traveling personally as well, and two of their favorite spots are New York City and London.  "We really like the theater," she said.

High school was a happy time for Becky.  What she remembers most are the dances, which she rarely missed.  "I still remember the Rocky shuffle.  I could still do it today, if I had the right partner," she said.

Barb Becke, Ginny Cale, Joan Foulk, Julia Gard and Suzie Geifman were all good friends of hers.  "I just look back and think how much we laughed and enjoyed our time," she said.

One of her favorite teachers was Miss Buren, her French teacher, and Paul Anka was her favorite singer back in the day.

She attended the 5th reunion and is planning to attend the 50th.  Becky would like to hear from other classmates and can be reached at adams.becky@hotmail.com.
